Last Friday, Kim had her first in the series of Fit with a Flair. This class taught the students how to alter a man’s shirt to fit their body the way they wanted it to fit! During dinner Kim spoke briefly about why when you find a clothing manufacturer whose clothes fit you perfect one time and not the next time. Here’s Kim’s take on it and a couple of photos from the class.
During Fridays Fit with Flair class we had a conversation about clothing brands and why some fit us and some don’t. Chances are your favorite brand’s designer uses a fit model that is similar to your proportions. Designers often choose a fit model that fit their design aesthetic and client demographic and will often use the same fit model for the duration of their career. So the next time your favorite brand’s size changes it is likely they have a new designer who is using a different fit model. A good fit model is very much in demand and designers will take them with them to new jobs or when they start their own clothing lines.
A fit model can make or break a designers line, chances are you will never see him or her but she will have tried on every piece in the line and has given feedback about such things as fit, wearability, fabric and style. So the next time you wear that favorite piece of clothing, think of the hard work that goes into the basic design and the people who make good things happen, the unsung heroes of style- the fit model!
This is actually two people – doesn’t it look like Jen is on Ellen’s body!
